Maths is used in our every day life without us even realising. 
 
Encourage children to:
  • Count the steps we go up and down
  • Look at the house numbers or bus numbers while in the street
  • Set the table - how many cups etc do we need?
  • Match pairs of socks
  • Brush long hair or short hair

Skills;

Number - Children will rote count to 5. Children will count to in correspondence to 5.

Numerical Patterns - Children will sort by colour, size and object. Children will sequence events using language including first, then and after. Children will identify patterns around them such as stripes on clothes. Children will compare big and small. Children will identify a circle, square and triangle. Children will use language including sides, corners, straight, flat and round.

 

Knowledge;

  • To understand the concept of numbers.
  • To know some numbers regardless of the order.
  • To be able to compare sizes, weights etc.
  • Climb and squeeze themselves into different types of spaces.
  • To know that patterns are everywhere in the environment.
