Absence from School

If your child is absent, a phone call should be made to school on the first day of the absence. A dated note of explanation should be signed by the parent and sent to the class teacher on the child’s return. Absence notes are retained as they constitute part of the record of attendance. Any unexplained absence will be reported to the DfE as an “unauthorised absence”.

Parents wishing to take their child to the doctor, dentist, etc. during school time, should send a note at least one day in advance or, at short notice, should telephone the School Secretary. Under no circumstances should a parent attempt to remove a child from the school premises without prior permission.

In the event of parents wishing to withdraw children during term time, a request should be made in writing to the Headteacher at least three weeks in advance. Such absences are strongly discouraged as they can prove to be very disruptive to the child’s education and all such absences are reported to the Attendance Improvement Officer. Permission will not be given for absences for Year 6 children during SATs week.
