Hello! I hope you have had a lovely weekend and you have been enjoying the sunshine! This week will be our last week of our 'Under the Sea' topic and this week, we will be learning about 'Pirates and Mermaids.'
We will be sending out reports at the end of the term. Usually within school time, we ask the children about things they have really enjoyed about being in Reception and what they are looking forward to in Year 1. This then gets copied onto the reports under the 'Pupil Comment' section.
As we are unable to be at school to complete this, can you please ask your child the two questions highlighted above and email their responses to the school office so we can include this on their reports. This only needs to be a couple of sentences long.
For example: I have really enjoyed being able to spend time with my friends in Reception. I am really looking forward to Maths in Year 1, because it is my favourite subject.
Literacy: Please read the story, 'Pirates love Underpants.' You can follow the link below or look out for Teddy on Tapestry! There is also 'The Little Mermaid' story attached that you can read to your child.
After reading both of the stories please ask your child if they would prefer to be a pirate or a mermaid? Please ask your child to write a few sentences in their blue book about why they would like to be a pirate or a mermaid. Please draw a picture too!
Extension: Please complete the pirate writing stimulus sheet that is attached. What can you see in the picture? Can you write it down?
Maths: The children will practice halving this week. Please see the pirate PowerPoint attached and play the halving game.
Extension: Can you complete the pirate number bonds challenge? Please see the sheet attached. You may need to use a number line to help you!
UW: Can you make your very own treasure map? You can use the template provided or you can draw your own if you prefer. Maybe you could use tea bags to make the paper look old? Don't forget X marks the spot!
UW: Can you make your own pirate pancakes? Maybe you would prefer to make a mermaid salad? Remember to wash your hands and follow safety rules. Can you use some healthy food? See the image below for inspiration.
EAD: I have seen some fantastic 'under the sea' themed art work so far! This week, you could make a pirate hat or a mermaid tale! There are some instructions on how to make a pirate hat, please see the link below or maybe you have your own idea?
Just for fun: I have attached some colouring sheets for your child to complete at home.
Have a great week!
