SEND/ CLA/ Emotional Wellbeing
Dear Parents/ Carers and Children,
Please look at our returning to school booklet ( see below ~ St Bernadette return to school booklet for pupils) if your child is coming back to school as a key worker or returning class. Useful to talk through and prepare for transition back to school in the "new normal" . Take a look in emotional well being at social stories about school.
September 2020 ~ welcome back to all our families . Well done for the positive attitude and the enthusiasm , this has made the transition back to school successful.
Gaps in vocabulary can affect children of all ages , see below for flexible ideas to immerse your child in an enriched language environment. " Closing the word gap "
July 2020 As we prepare for September and our "new normal" have a look at the social story explaining about "bubbles" . Talk through this with your child , especially clarifying language such as they won't actually be in a real bubble.
Anna Freud " Coping with unexpected endings and loss" is a useful tool to talk to children about how the school year has changed, particularly for our Year 6 children . See below.
Communication and Anxieties ~ see ideas to support children who maybe withdrawing and finding things challenging. See below.
A new schools and families advice line SFAL has opened to support pupils with anxieties and emotional regulation 0300 777 0707 You will get a call back from a mental health practitioner Monday to Friday 8-5 . See attachment below for more details
You may not be with us in body but we are with you in spirit and in prayers. We will use this section of our website to give you ideas to support pupils with additional needs and anyone who needs a little emotional reassurance.
There will be useful links and some ideas for use to use at home such as choosing the right level of reading book to managing worries. Plus, some ideas for creative thinking.
Keep checking in and together we will be strong, resilient and OK. Remember we use Zones of Regulation to support managing emotions.
Book Club ~ have a look at SEND Reading section for link to Wizarding World and Harry Potter.
SEND links during lockdown ~ This is an update from our local support group DSPL7. The links should all open to relevant Herts or charities websites. Please check out “Special Needs Jungle” a parent-led information, resources and informed opinion website and has lots of really useful and practical ideas from first-hand experience.
